Why Puerto Galera Belongs to Most Crowded Destinations During Holy Week

One of the busiest periods in Puerto Galera is during the Holy Week where people take advantage of the four days off from work. For years now, it has been one of the idyllic destinations for local and foreign tourists who want to soak up under the sun.

Because of its proximity to Metro Manila, as compared to Boracay, Puerto Galera can be enjoyed even for an overnight stay. However, accommodation rates go rocket high since it’s peak season. Super peak, actually.

Aside from being closer to the metro, it’s kind of cheaper to go on vacation here than in most of the much coveted Holy Week destinations in the country as you won’t be spending huge chunk of your budget for airfare.

Holy Week in Puerto Galera

BUT, just like falling in line in airport terminals on a Holy Week, you can expect similar scene on the bus terminal going to Batangas, more so on the port. So you’ve got to have unlimited patience until you reach the infamous shores of Puerto Galera.

BUT, since it’s Holy Week, you have to share the entire stretch of White Beach with hundreds of beach-bumming people crowding the shoreline. If this isn’t your kind of beach escapade, Puerto Galera on Holy Week isn’t much of a bright idea.

BUT, for those who want some time to reflect and observe Holy Week traditions, you can still do so by visiting the Immaculate Conception Parish Church in Poblacion, Puerto Galera.

Whichever way we choose to spend Holy Week, take some time to say a little prayer and reflect on what the Lenten Season is meant for.

Lucas Italian Restaurant

talipanan beachAfter almost 4 hours bus ride to Batangas Port and a boat ride to White Beach, we were still undecided which beach to stay at. I had always been partial with White Beach which for me has the best beach in the area.

It has a wide range of accommodation and a lively night life especially on weekends and in the summer months of April and May. If you happen to be in Puerto Galera and want s peaceful and quiet atmosphere, good Italian food and reasonably-priced accommodation, Luca’s and Mira Lodge on Talipanan Beach is a relaxing and private beach gateway.

If you happen to be in Puerto Galera and want a peaceful and quiet atmosphere, good Italian food and reasonably-priced accommodation, Luca’s and Mira Lodge on Talipanan Beach is a relaxing and private beach getaway.

I recommend it for couples, families and friends who don’t mind skipping the night life and water adventures on offer at White Beach. Even if you do stay at White Beach, a visit to Luca’s for dinner is highly recommended for the excellent Italian food!

Refreshing Stopover at Tamaraw Falls

Tamaraw falls is located in Barangasy Villaflor near the city of San Teodoro. One cannot miss this 423-foot natural wonder because it is found along the road. Aside from the beaches, Mindoro offers a lot for nature travelers. One of these is the Tamaraw falls which is popular swimming spot for weekenders. This provides one of the most breathtaking sights to behold. To get to the Tamaraw Falls, you can simply hire a jeepney that will over a combination of paved and rough roads. The trip approximately takes an hour.

The falls derived its name from species of buffalo which can only be found in Oriental Mindoro among the country endangered species as it is hunted by the people who are after its meat. There are a series of small waterfalls that end in the final drop into the cool water of the pool at the bottom of the Tamaraw Falls. The water at first is quite cool, but extremely refreshing once you get over the initial sudden shock, it is not that the water is so cold, but rather the air temperature is so high that makes such a contrasting difference.

There is a picnic area and a larger rock pool for swimming, a small fee is charged to enter the picnic area. The larger rock pool is man made and does look like it has seen better days, it is a little bit tired.

Our Lady of the Assumptions – Oriental Mindoro

The first church in the Municipality of Lubang appears to have been built by Fr. Muriel in 1865. In 1918 there was a strong typhoon which destroyed many houses and buildings including the church.

In 1935 the present concrete church in Barangay Poblacion was built with Fr. Enrique Rixner, SVD. (Divine Word Missionary), being the main proponent.

Tamaraw Falls – San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro

Tamaraw Falls can be found in Barangay Villaflor near the city of San Teodoro. It is a 423-foot natural wonder because it is found along the road. It consists of a series of smaller waterfalls which converge to the main waterfalls cascading down to the waterbed below. This provides one of the most breathtaking sights to behold.

The falls derived its name from a species of buffalo which can only be found in Oriental Mindoro. It is among the countrys endangered species as it is being hunted by people who are after its meat. Proclamation No. 692, signed in 2004, made October 1 a special working holiday in the province in celebration of the Tamaraw Conservation Month.

Tamaraw Falls is fifteen kilometers from the town proper. There is a resort found at the foot of the falls and for a minimal fee, guests can refresh themselves at its cool and clean waters. Aside from that, there are recreation halls, picnic huts, and shower rooms that leads down to the foot of the falls. The entrance fee to the resort is PHP 25 per person.

Tamaraw Falls serves as an alternative to the beaches of Puerto Galera. Although there are other waterfalls in the island, Tamaraw Falls provides one of the most breathtaking sights for tourists.
